Park Life 2017 - Wallace Park and Moat Park

There has been a taste of summer weather and everyone hopes that the sunshine returns for the summer programme of ‘Park Life’ that will take in Wallace Park, Lisburn and Moat Park, Dundonald. From Sunday 2nd July to Sunday 20th August, these two parks will play host to a wide range of musical entertainment on Sunday afternoons.

 

From Sunday 2nd July 2017 to Sunday 31st August, Wallace Park, Lisburn and Moat Park, Dundonald will play host to a series of Ulster Scots music concerts on Sundays throughout the Summer.

All events are free and open to the public.

Come and enjoy a wide variety of tunes played by local bands.

Sunday 2nd July

Lisburn Young Defenders

3:00PM-4:00PM

Lisburn Young Defenders have followed their Irish Melody Flute championship wins of 2000, 2001 and 2003 by becoming Northern Ireland Flute Band Association Melody Plus winners in 2017. A stand-out performance at the 2015 Belfast Tattoo saw Lisburn Young Defenders being presented to a worldwide audience and recognised at the highest level of musical ability and entertainment.

Drumlough Pipe Band

Drumlough Pipe Band is from the townland of Drumlough and had its first public appearance in 1951.

Sunday 16th July

Garvey Silver Band

Garvey Silver Band plays an extensive modern repertoire of light and popular music (both classical and original brass) as well as film themes, marches and hymn tunes with something for all tastes.

Sunday 23rd July

Dynamic Brass Band

3:00PM-4:00PM

This local brass band was launched in April 2013 by Harold Whan and Patricia Evans. Their repertoire includes a selection of marches, hymns, classical and modern brass band music.

Sunday 30th July

Drumlough Pipe Band

Enjoy the spectacle and sound of Drumlough Pipe Band including marches, slow airs, up-tempo jigs and reels.

Sunday 6th August

Dynamic Brass Band

Dynamic Brass is 'A band to bring together people of all ages to establish, develop, educate, maintain and promote the concept of Brass Band Music for the benefit of the local community and beyond.'

Sunday 13th August

1st Old Boys Youth Band

The 1st Old Boys Youth Band consists of 35 young people following the tradition of the first Old Boys Association Silver Band which was formed in Belfast in 1946. The band performs a wide range of musical genre.

Sunday 20th August

The Northern Ireland Concert Band

The Northern Ireland Concert Band was originally set up as The Band of The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Services in 2005, under the direction of Mr Warnock Patterson. This cross community band has members from across Northern Ireland.

Sunday 2nd July

Ulster Scots Agency Juvenile Pipe Band

3:00PM-4:00PM

This Band was formed in late 2012 from children taught as part of the Ulster-Scots Agency programme.

The ethos of an band is to give young people the opportunity to perform with other young pipers and drummers while more experienced players encourage and advise.

Sunday 9th July

Gilnahirk Pipe Band

The founder Gilnahirk Pipe Band was Norman F.Harper, the son of John C.Harper, who was senior elder of Gilnahirk Presbyterian church. Over the years, pipers and drummers were frequently present at church events.

Comber Silver Band

The original Comber band started as a flute band in 1902 before converting to brass in 1949. Each week the members come together to practice for concerts, contests, church services and numerous other engagements.

The Templemore Band

The Templemore Band was formed in 1949 and has successfully competed at local, European and World championship levels.

Comber Silver Band

Comber Silver Band aims to give back to the community in the area and are involved annually in Christmas celebrations and Remembrance Day services.

Sunday 6th August

Symington Memorial Silver Band

Symington Memorial Silver Band traces its origins back to 1898. In 1998 the band celebrated its centenary and today it’s still going strong, a memorial to Robert Symington its founder.
