Touch of Tartan - Charity concert

09 November 2015

The RSPBANI President’s charity fundraising concert entitled ‘A Touch of Tartan’ was held in Greystone Primary School, Antrim, on Friday 6th November.

Taking part in what was a great evening of entertainment were:  Ravara Pipe Band, Ulster-Scots Agency Juvenile Pipe Band, Ian Burrows & Kenny Qua on Scottish small-pipes, guitar and whistles, Michelle Johnston School of Highland Dance and gospel singer Lynda Lindsay.  The compere was John Wallace, a member of Waringsford Pipe Band.

The concert was organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Northern Ireland Branch (RSPBANI) and all proceeds will go to the President’s nominated charity for 2015 - Friends of the Cancer Centre.

Winston Pinkerton, the RSPBANI President, is a recovered cancer patient and the charity is one which is close to his heart; he chose Friends of the Cancer Centre as this year’s charity because as well as having been treated for cancer myself he is quite sure that most members of each pipe band in Northern Ireland know of someone affected by cancer who has also been treated at the Centre.

Speaking of the concert, which is the final event in a year of fundraising for the Friends of the Cancer Centre, Winston said, “I would like to thank all who took part and all who helped make the fundraising concert such a great success.  I would also like to thank all who attended the event, particularly those who travelled from as far away as Fermanagh, Londonderry and Donegal”.
