Augustine was born in Dundee on 2 July 1857. His fathe Bernard was originally from Ylster whils his mother Mary McNamee was Scottish.
Shortly after Augustine was born the family returned to live in the family home at Tyanee, near Portglenone, on the west side of the Ban in Conuty Londonderry.
