...that Archibald McIlroy, perhaps the foremost local exponent of the Kailyard school of writing, died as a result of the sinking of the RMS Lusitania by a German submarine off the Old Head of Kinsale on 7 May 1915.

His most popular books include When Lint Was in the Bell (1897) and The Auld Meetin’-hoose Green (1898).
