Discover Ulster-Scots Centre

America Room at DUSCThe Discover Ulster-Scots Centre in Belfast highlights the long-standing historical, cultural and linguistic links between Scotland and Ulster and further afield.

A range of exhibition galleries introduce visitors to the vibrant cultural identity of the Ulster-Scots people, Lowland Scots, who have shaped this part of the world for over 400 years.

The galleries explore the early historic links between Ulster and Scotland; as well as the key events since the arrival of the Ulster-Scots, including the coming of Presbyterianism to Ulster, the Williamite Wars and the 1798 Rebellion.

There are also a range of displays on the language and culture Ulster-Scots share with their kin in Scotland, and a dedicated gallery telling the story of the Scotch-Irish – Ulster-Scots who travelled to the USA.

The America room in the Discover Ulster-Scots Centre features historical artefacts and documents which help to bring these transatlantic connections to life.

The Discover Ulster-Scots Centre is situated at The Corn Exchange Building, 1-9 Victoria Street, Belfast, BT1 3GA, in the city’s vibrant Cathedral Quarter.

In 1859, it was the venue for one of two major events which took place in the city to mark the Centenary of the Scotland's National Bard, Robert Burns.

The Discover Ulster-Scots Centre is open from 10.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday.

Admission is free.

There is a gift shop on site and visitors are welcome to call in and talk to our expert staff who are on hand to assist.  The Centre also boasts a performance and lecture area, while public research spaces provide tourists, community groups and schools with the opportunity to learn more about the rich cultural heritage of Ulster-Scots.
