If you’ve ever wanted to know more about Robert Burns, Dr Carol Baraniuk is running a 5-week course ‘Robert Burns: Poet and Songwriter’.
Dr Baraniuk has spent many years researching Burns's poetry and letters, and has published essays on Burns in the Oxford Handbook of Robert Burns (2024) and these sessions will provide participants with a better acquaintance with Burns and his many faces as a poet: humourist, satirist, story teller, lover and folk song collector.
It will celebrate the wit, pathos, craft and inspiration of his work, and examine the poems and songs within the context of his short, densely packed life.
No previous detailed knowledge of poetry analysis is necessary for participants. The course will consider how Burns's work has been presented by singers, musicians and artists in different periods.
When: Wednesdays 2-4pm, commencing 12 March
Where: Queen's University Belfast campus
Cost: £46 (Concession £33).
