"Pooshy" [Push-y] Meaning: Henpecked man
18 July 2025
We are aiming to produce another edition of Yarns, the journal which celebrates contemporary writing in Ulster-Scots and Scots, later this year with the launch during Ulster-Scots Leid Week in Novemmer 2025.
To allow us to do that, we're now seeking submissions for inclusion in the next edition. We welcome new work in Poetry or Prose; and the journal is open to receiving submissions from writers new and old, those previously published or first-time writers as we hope to encourage a broader engagement with Ulster-Scots writing and themes.
We’ll accept up to three poems and/or one short story for inclusion.
These should be sent to yarnsulsterscotsjournal@gmail.com.
Please also share with anyone who you think might be interested in being included.
Submissions should be supplied in Microsoft Word format, along with contact details for inclusion should you be selected. If selected, we'll then be in touch to get a short pen portrait for inclusion and your postal address to forward you copies of the published journal.
Closing date for submissions is Friday 29th August 2025.
The editorial panel’s decision on inclusion is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Submitted pieces should be the original work of the person submitting and should not contain any material written by anyone else or copied from elsewhere. Ideally the work should not have been published elsewhere. Copyright of the work remains with the author, but by submitting it for inclusion the author gives the publisher the right in perpetuity to publish and/or broadcast their work.
