Due to high demand regarding the first OCN courses announced for 2026, the Ulster-Scots Community Network is delighted to be able to offer an on-site option.
The course is the Level 1 “Introduction to Ulster-Scots” and will take place in Belfast later this spring.
Accredited free of charge by The Open College Network NI, the course is delivered over 4 2.5-hour sessions, covering the following topics:
What is an Ulster-Scots identity?
An overview of the Plantation of Ulster
Taakin with Ulster-Scots (language); and
Ulster-Scots and Family History.
Details of these opportunities are as follows:
OPTION 1
Tuesdays – 14, 21 & 28 April and 5 May
6.30pm – 9pm

OPTION 2
Thursdays – 16, 23 & 30 April and 7 May
6.30pm – 9pm

A minimum number of 8 participants are required to justify running the courses. If you are interested in attending, please email charlesn@ulster-scots.com ASAP as to which of these options best suit you. The USCN will then follow-up with participants with any further information.
