The Lyric Theatre, Ulster-Scots Agency and Arts Council of Northern Ireland have recently completed the first phase of a project to deliver the ‘The Boat Factory’. This is the first of a series of six plays commissioned by the Ulster-Scots Agency and written by Dan Gordon called the ‘Pat and Plain’ series. Written for Key Stage 2 pupils, the play is set in the Belfast Shipyard in the late fifties and explores Ulster-Scots social and economic heritage and the Ulster-Scots language. more »
Pupils of Greyabbey Primary School in the Ards Peninsula in Co Down were treated to a drumming recital by members of the local junior Lambeg drumming club. more »
Pupils of the Boys' Model School have been developing their Ulster-Scots culture, through an initiative directed by the Ulster-Scots Agency which involved a 10-week Lambeg drum and fife workshop. It turned out to be a resounding success and as a result, in September, a second workshop of drumming and fife-playing began in the school for a 24-week period. Twenty boys were involved – 16 drummers and four fife players. As a result of the success of the workshops, the school decided to investigate acquiring its own Lambeg drum. more »
The Kilkeel-based Schomberg Society delivered Ulster Scots workshops in fifing, Lambeg drumming, the tin whistle and highland dance to Rathfriland High School Year 8 students. more »
The Ulster-Scots Agency recently funded a cross-border partnership involving second level schools from both sides of the border to study and produce a Copper Craft Exhibition that brings into focus the Irish connection with Scotsman Robert Burns. more »
